The Alentejano Pig, is a black pig breed from this region and grazes in the “Montados" in autumn and winter, it is the so called period of “Montanheira”. By feeding mainly on acorns from the cork and green oaks its meat has a special flavour.
The famous “Pata Negra” and “5J” ham, true delicacies are appreciated worldwide and obtained from these montado pigs.
